Terms of Service

By using Lyfword you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service. Lyfword is operated from South Africa under South African law.

Lyfword is a reading platform where authors publish books that readers experience as scroll-driven, cinematic web pages. The platform also offers AI-assisted features such as chapter summaries and character profiles.

Reading published books is free. Some authoring features and some reader-side AI features may cost money or use credits. Where money is involved, the price will be clearly shown before you pay.

• You must be 13 or older to create an account.
• You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials safe and for activity on your account.
• You may delete your account at any time by emailing hello@lyfword.com.
• We may suspend an account that abuses the service (spam, fraud, attempting to bypass usage caps, harming other users).

While using Lyfword you agree not to:

• Upload content you don't own or don't have rights to publish.
• Upload content that is unlawful, defamatory, hateful, sexually explicit involving minors, or that incites violence.
• Attempt to disrupt the service, scrape it at scale, or circumvent rate limits or usage caps.
• Use Lyfword AI to generate content that violates Anthropic's usage policies.
• Reverse-engineer the service or extract bulk data about other users.

If you publish a book on Lyfword you confirm that you own the copyright or have the necessary rights, and you grant Lyfword a non-exclusive licence to host, format, transcode, and display the book to readers.

You keep ownership of your work. You can unpublish a book at any time; once unpublished, new readers can no longer access it. Existing readers may retain a local copy of any text they had already read on their device.

You are responsible for the accuracy and legality of what you publish. We may take down content that infringes someone else's rights or breaks these terms.

Lyfword AI generates summaries, character profiles, and takeaways from book text using Anthropic's language models. Output is generated on demand and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading. Treat AI output as a study aid, not as fact, and do not rely on it for important decisions.

AI features have daily caps to keep costs predictable. Hitting a cap is normal; it resets at midnight UTC.

• Payments are processed by Paystack. By paying, you also agree to Paystack's terms.
• Credits purchased for AI usage are non-refundable except where required by law, and they have no cash value.
• Donations to Lyfword are voluntary, non-refundable, and do not grant any product or service in return.
• Prices may change. Existing credit balances keep their value.

We work hard to keep Lyfword up and running, but the service is provided "as is". We don't guarantee uninterrupted access, bug-free behaviour, or that the AI features will give correct answers. We may add, change, or remove features.

To the extent allowed by law, Lyfword is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost data, lost revenue, or lost opportunity arising from use of the service. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you is capped at the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

You can stop using Lyfword at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may terminate or suspend your access if you breach these terms or if we reasonably believe your continued use puts the service or other users at risk.

If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top and, where reasonable, email account holders before the change takes effect. Continued use of Lyfword after a change means you accept the new terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts, except where consumer-protection law gives you the right to bring a claim where you live.
